CT Forum: Chefs! Top Chefs Dish on Food Flavor & Culture
On May 21 I attended The CT forum where the main topic of discussion was food and its intersectionality with culture. However, before we went to the Bushnell, we ate dinner at City Kebab in Hartford which was delicious. I have never tried Uzbek food before and after eating it I am just in love!
Reflection
After dinner, we headed to the Bushnell with full stomachs and high spirits where we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the CT Forum listening to the hilarious moderator and the extremely talented panelists. They all had such interesting backgrounds and ideas that made the conversation so much more interesting. I was fascinated by the stories they told about their lives and how they first became interested in food and cooking. I was constantly being reminded of memories I have of cooking with my grandmother when I was little and how important they are to the ways I interact with food now. Many interesting topics came up throughout the discussion but throughout the night I found myself thinking about how food and culture always intersect. It is evident through history that food has always evolved along with an ever-changing human culture. This idea of authenticity that came up is especially interesting because of this idea that the culture of food cannot exist without a changing human culture because of all the diverse ideas and practices that come along with it. Is there truly anything authentic in this world? How authentic can food really be if is constantly evolving and changing? It makes me wonder how different food will be in the decades, and even centuries, to come.
