Reflection
Doctors Without Borders visit:
Visiting Doctors Without Borders was by far one of my favorite parts of the trip and of this whole year. Hearing and seeing the impactful work they do as an organization is so inspiring and fills me with so much joy. Listening to the stories told by the two women about their travels brought me back to what I felt during and after my trips to the Dominican Republic and how much service truly changes your life. It inspired me even more to continue devoting my time to helping others and providing service where it is needed, whether it is domestic or international. I hope that one day I am able to work with an organization that works like Doctors Without Borders where I can work behind the scenes and on the ground of service work. It was really interesting to see and hear about all of the hard work, dedication, and patience it takes to work with an organization like this.
SUFFS The Musical:
I thoroughly enjoyed the SUFFS musical and the cast was so inspiring to watch. Through the stories they told, I learned so much about the Suffragist Movement and about the powerful women who brought us one step closer to gender equality. Going into the musical, I, unfortunately, did not know very much about the suffragist movement aside from the fact that it was a movement dedicated to persuading the government to allow women to vote. However, I left the theatre with so much more knowledge about the movement and how it was fought. I was most interested in the way the story captured the differences between the older and younger suffragists and how they each handled going about fighting for the change they wanted. The older suffragists were somewhat more compliant with the slow and steady fight as the younger suffragists wanted the change fast and put up a more “in your face” fight. It is so interesting how that dynamic translates even to our society today and how the younger generation, Gen-Z, has taken many things into their own hands rather than standing by. It was incredibly inspiring to see this on stage and even more inspiring when both generations came together to fight for such an important cause; hopefully, this will happen more and more in our world to create an even stronger force for what we fight for today.
